As the time got closer for me to graduate, my dreams of picking up, moving far away, and working at a university got more vivid. I knew that the next few years I would be transitioning into my new identity of Dr. and was fully aware that there probably wouldn't be much time for anything else. But before I became Dr.... I became Mom.
At first, I had a bit of an identity crisis. That question of "Who am I?" raced through my mind constantly. Mom was not in the plans, and now the original plans needed to be renegotiated.
On January 25, 2017, Matt and I went to the hospital, three and half weeks early, to deliver. We welcomed the most peaceful, curious little girl, Jolpin Grace Lawrence. As soon as she was in my arms, all my anxieties, stresses, and frustrations with not getting the life I had imagined were put to rest.
But, I now had a new responsibility, probably the most important one I'd ever had. In this blog, I attempt to share experiences, activities, and interactions that may promote social, emotional, and cognitive development and prepare Joplin for global citizenship.
